Last night I went out late to do some more photowalking in Atlanta, this time by night, very late at night (i.e. early morning).
The interesting thing about being out well after midnight is that there is almost nobody around. You can stand in the middle of a four lane road and take your time to compose a photograph without worrying about being run over. You can take photographs if places on their own, without people, without cars. And you can often observe some of the seedier aspects of life emerge.
Last night I took about 70 photos. I ended up with 5 that I was happy enough with to post on my Flickr page. I learned a lot. About adjusting for exposure in a different way at night than during the day. About the quality of the lens and f/stop. Composition. And most interestingly of all, after living here for over 10 years, I learned how BIG Atlanta is! When you can travel around from one side of midtown to the other side of downtown freely, unhampered by traffic, and have time to take in the beautiful views and notice how far away you just were, you realize that Atlanta, judging merely by tall buildings from Downtown, Midtown and to Buckhead, is quite large.
