Casio EX-S600 Camera in video mode

Picture of a Casio EX-S600 Camera

Today my friend Jay came over for some help in figuring out the video mode on his Casio EX-S600 camera.

There are three recording modes, which translate to the following:

  1. 640x480 low compression (high quality)
  2. 640x480 high compression (lower quality)
  3. 320x240 low compression (1/4 the size of the above)

Here are two of the video samples we took.

Note that you're watching these from YouTube, which transcodes them again into Flash Video and they're both going to be the same size on your screen, so this isn't a scientific test. However, Jay's objective was to see what the difference was, and which of the three he could get away with and still get decent enough quality to record a kid's sports activity and then transcode and burn to DVD.

Test #1 (using option #1 above)

Test #2 (using option #3 above)

Jay - time to get you set up with a Flickr account for all of the stills. :)
